Rare Find, Sea Glass Float
I found this float the other day while cleaning out my Grandpa's shed. It is a Japanese fishing float. This one has lots of bubbles, uncommon markings, and it is almost perfect. You can see it here.

My Time at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
While I was in the Navy, I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I worked in the prison there, escorting detainees to their appointments and interrogations.
While I was stationed there, there was not much to do with your free time , so I would spend my time at Glass Beach looking for lovely little sea glass gems. The beaches there are made of coarse sand and small rocks, and sea glass.
On this beach, there are also lots of natural sea sponges in all shapes and sizes too. I thought about collecting some all though they smelled terrible. So I left them.
Another regular beach goer we would run into are Rock Iguanas. These things are huge and some of them are VERY aggressive. I think that they were aggressive due to being fed by humans.
I had some good times at Guantanamo and I am glad that I got to be part of history but, I was ready to leave that place..that is for sure. Too hot, humid, and not much to do.

Shrinky Horse Pin
Okay...I finally photographed and listed this horse pin to Etsy. I promised that I would get it up here so everyone could see. I made this horse with shrink plastic. I colored with colored pencils, cut him out, and cooked him. I used E6000 ( I think that is what it is called) to glue the pin to the horse. Let me know what you think.

I love sea glass. Using it in jewelry helps me to be green and Eco friendly. Sea glass was once trash that was either discarded into the ocean by a litter bug or it could be from a ship wreck. Anyhow, it is washed around and tumbled by the surf and sand for 30 years or more and becomes amazingly soft and smooth. What was once trash becomes lovely gems. I love incorporating them in jewelry. Sea glass is pretty easy to find and is super gorgeous. Here are some pieces that are featured in my Etsy shop for sale.
The bracelet above is called Beach Goddess. I think this has to be my favorite piece. The colors all remind me of the ocean. This bracelet is made with a heavy sterling silver chain and sterling "S" hook. There are several fresh water pearls, cobalt blue glass beads, Swarovski crystals, one piece of aqua sea glass and two pieces of rare cobalt sea glass. These pieces of glass came from the beaches of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. You could have a piece of history just by owning this bracelet. See it here.

Shrink Plastic
I decided to buy some shrink plastic from Joann's after seeing a project in a book. I am still in the learning phases. I made a few things. They did not turn out that great. I saw on another blog that you should sand the paper so that is has "tooth" which will allow the color to adhere better.
So last night I sanded the plastic sheet with 320 grit sandpaper in a criss cross fashion. I drew a horse, colored it, cut it out, baked it.....and guess what. It turned out GREAT. I am going to make it into a pin. It is a paint horse for those of you that are interested. I will be posting to my shop soon. www.akkricket.etsy.com
Off to perfect my techniques.
